If it is 23mm or less, go with the 27mm flange. If it is 20mm or less, you should get a 24mm flange. Once you get the measurement, add about 2 to 5 millimeters to get your correct flange size.įor example, if your nipple width is 17mm or less, you’ll want to get a 21mm size flange. Also, make sure to measure it in millimeters (hint: 1 cm = 10 mm).

Make sure to not include the areola! The areola is the darker colored skin around the nipple. Get out a ruler or measuring tape and measure the diameter of your nipple at its base, which means the distance straight across the nipple at the bottom. To avoid any of those problems, it’s best to measure your nipples before you buy your pump to make sure you have the right flange size from the beginning.

But not all women’s nipples will fit the standard size. All electric breast pumps come with at least two flanges, which are usually a standard size of 24 to 27 millimeters (mm).

I used the ruler and followed the exact instructions, but I guess I shouldn’t have added 1-2mm to my nipple measurement like the paper said.Do your breasts hurt while you are pumping? Are you not getting as much milk as you think you should? The problem may not be with your pump or your milk supply – it could simply be that you don’t have the right breast shield size for your breasts.įlanges, also known as breast shields, are the plastic cone-shaped pieces that fit over your breasts while you’re pumping. My only complaint is that I could’ve gone a size smaller. These help pumping hurt less and be more effective! I’m glad I bought them. I put clean them and put them in all my pumps as I use them. Highly recommend if you have flames that was too large, makes pumping much easier. No more cracked, bleeding nipples or pain while pumping, and my supply is as strong as ever! These absolutely saved my nipples! I’m going on 4 months exclusively pumping and almost gave up until I tried these. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because they are harder to get in and out of flanges but if you add just a drop of oil, they slide in much more easily. My clients have the accessibility because I have them and they don't have to wait for shipping. They are quite useful in my clinical practice as they fit in my car office without taking too much room and they are easily cleaned and sterilized.

Thank you for your feedback! If you have trouble inserting them into a flange sized 24-28mm you can fold them like a taco, slide in, and allow them to expand. Very satisfied with both the product and the customer service! These are comfortable, convenient, and high quality. Luckily Lactation Hub offered the silicone inserts and WOW did they make a huge difference! I didn't realize that pumping shouldn't hurt. However, most companies didn't sell the specialty size.

These work great, plus the pull tab makes it so much easier to remove!Īfter having varying success with a medical grade pump, I finally measured my nipples correctly and realized I needed smaller flanges.
